The course will help attendees to understand the common presentations, differential diagnoses, and essential assessment tools to make the right diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan.

The use of exposure has been shown to be effective for many anxiety disorders, yet the treatment is utilized infrequently by clinicians. Understanding the rationale of exposure-based strategies and how to practically employ these principles is essential to treatment. This course will help attendees understand and convey this message to patients as well as grasp how to begin treatment planning. Additional treatment considerations, such as patient motivation, parent accommodations, and comorbidities will be discussed.

Exposure in ERP: How to Practically Apply Exposure Principles

The concept of exposure therapy is simply when considering basic fears and phobias. When the core fears or targets are more complex, it can be challenging for therapist to configure effective and practical exposures. This course will help attendees understand the different types of exposure, how to ask specific questions to identify the core fears, and how to personalize exposure practices to increase treatment success within OCD treatment.
- Attendees will be able to state the different types of exposure practices
- Attendees will be able to identify questions to target the core fears to better construct exposure practices
- Attendees will be able to recall examples of how to approach a difficult exposure.

The course will provide more training on treatment nuances in order increase treatment success as well as greater mastery of the exposure and response prevention protocol. The material will include concepts such as relapse prevention, handling atypical presentations, navigating barriers to treatment, and additional treatment supplements.
- The participant will be able to state the rationale for relapse prevention.
- The participant will be able to identify at least two additional treatment targets for a patient with OCD.
- The participant will be able to name two treatment barriers for ERP.
